Ron Cey
Ronald Charles Cey is a former third baseman who played for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1971-1982), Chicago Cubs (1983-1986), and Oakland Athletics (1987). A popular player, he was nicknamed "The Penguin" for his slow waddling running gait by his then-minor league manager Tommy Lasorda.
He participated in four world series, and was named Co-MVP in 1981 in which the Dodgers won the national title. He was a member of the longest running Dodger Infield along with Billy Russell, Steve Garvey, and Davey Lopes during the 1970s. His Los Angeles home-run record was recently broken by Eric Karros. He was also named to 6 National League All Star teams (1974-79). In a 17-season career, Cey hit 316 home runs and 1139 RBI’s in 2073 games.
Ron Cey currently resides in Los Angeles, Ca with his wife Fran of 37 years. He has been working for the Los Angeles Dodgers for the past 12 years in the departments of marketing, sponsorship, community relations, pr, and corporate entertainment.
